Overview
The primary purpose of a Home Theatre Receiver is to amplify sound from various audio sources as well as send video signals from other components such as Blu-ray Players and Set Top Boxes to your TV or Projector. The term 'Receiver' originated in the USA in the early 1960's when the first Stereo Amplifiers started to appear with an in-built Tuner to "receive" Radio signals. Today, a Home Theatre Receiver has five or seven in-built amplifiers, an AM/FM Tuner and surround sound processing. Some also have an ethernet connection so you can listen to Internet Radio.
