Klipsch RP-600M II Stand Mount Speakers
The Klipsch RP-600M II is an amazing compact speaker capable of extremely high output with little or no distortion. As per the Klipsch tradition, they are very efficient. A good quality 60 Watt per channel amplifier will make front row "concert-like" sound levels. Their strength is in the clean crisp highs and mid bass punch, with a nice low frequency presence.
This affordably-priced bookshelf speaker model is another stand-out in Klipsch's Reference Premiere Series. They boast a single 165mm (6.5") woofer - cones made out of specially treated aluminium that's strong yet lightweight to dampen and prevent distortion - plus Klipsch's signature 25mm (1") titanium dome horn tweeter for crisp, extended, highs.
With the Reference Premiere Series, Klipsch also gave these woofers a newly developed titanium voice coil former that allows more linear movement for enhanced efficiency, lower distortion, and extended low frequency response. Look around the back, and you'll see that instead of the conventional round port tube found on many speakers, Klipsch uses a Tractrix horn-shaped opening for smoother, more efficient airflow in and out of the cabinet. The resulting decrease in air turbulence makes for cleaner, more powerful bass with reduced port noise and low-frequency distortion. They can handle up to 100 Watts RMS and 400 Watts of peak power.
90° X 90° Silicon Composite Hybrid Tractrix Horn: Horn loading maximizes efficiently and increases detail while focusing high frequencies towards the listening area. Proprietary Tractrix® geometry provides the most efficient transfer of high frequency waves into the listening area. The phase plug and compressed moulded silicon face ensure smooth frequency response. When combined, the cleanest, most natural sound possible is created. The second generation increases horn size for a larger soundstage and enhanced directivity.
Linear Travel Suspension (LTS) Titanium Diaphragm Tweeter: The exclusive Linear Travel Suspension minimizes distortion for enhanced, detailed performance. LTS tweeters are a hallmark of previous Reference lines, making it a core component of some of the best speakers in the world.
Vented Tweeter Design: The vented tweeter housing reduces standing waves that create unwanted harmonics, resulting in enhanced detail and clarity in high frequency reproduction.
Cerametallic Woofers – All New Design: A signature feature on the Reference Premiere series, Cerametallic™ woofers are exceptionally rigid and lightweight for minimal distortion and maximum efficiency. New voice coils are 70% larger in diameter resulting in improved power handling and greater cone control for greater linearity and flawless reproduction. New aluminium shorting rings reduce distortion as well as increase power handling and the new motor structure improve transit response with more control with greater speed and accuracy.
Tractrix Ports: Utilizing Tractrix geometry, the Reference Premiere ports allow for the most efficient, fastest air transfer from the cabinet, which reduces port noise for punchier low frequencies. Klipsch Tractrix ports have custom designed inner flares that help reduce air turbulence entering the port. Less turbulent air helps reduce port noise for cleaner, more powerful bass.
Bi-Wiring / Bi-Amping Capability: Dual input terminals for bi-wiring / bi-amping capabilities. Bi-wiring separates high and low frequency current into separate speaker cables, reducing intermodulation distortion, for clearer midrange. Bi-amping allows for customization using outboard crossovers when using separate amplifiers.
New & Improved Connections: Featuring audiophile-grade wire and easily accessible aluminium binding posts for any connection type.
Furniture Grade Materials & Finishes: Finishes include ebony vinyl and walnut vinyl that boast satin painted baffles with a scratch resistant finish.
Strong, Flexible, Removable Grille: Attaches magnetically for an elegant transition from powerful showstopper to discrete performance piece.
Cork Pads: Cork pads under the speakers replace rubber bumpers for security on a stand or table.
Our Take On The Klipsch RP-600M II Stand Mount Speakers
Klipsch speakers deliver a dynamic and fast sound which is nothing less than impressive whether playing music or movies. Bi-amped they "rock" even more. If you demand huge performance from a very small speaker, good luck finding anything that will top these, regardless of price point. When coupled with even a compact subwoofer, you get amazing full soundstage experience, even in a medium to large room. With a good sub from either Klipsch or SVS you will probably have more than enough foundation shaking bass to "tick off the family."
But there is another big story to tell and that is the subject of sensitivity or speaker efficiency. Most speakers are about 90dB efficiency and in stereo mode and with a modest approach to the volume control does not present any problem for any good amplifier. However combine more speakers with more volume and average efficiency speakers (say 90dB) and your amplifier will run quite hot and go into clipping - a type of distortion. One solution is to buy a bigger amplifier for your speakers and that is definitely one path. Another solution is to invest in a pair of speakers like the Klipsch RP-600M II. These speakers are a very efficient 94.5dB which means you can easily run them with half the power of most other speakers. A good 50 to 60 Watt amplifier would be perfect.
