About The Denon HEOS Link HS2

The Apple iPod was a major game-changer in the way we enjoyed music. Now, smartphones and tablets are the preferred way to store your favourite tunes and the Australian designed Denon HEOS system is the latest system to come to market. The Denon HEOS Link and is designed to easily add wireless music streaming to your existing stereo, home theatre system or powered speaker system.

The HEOS Link connects to your home stereo system via the stereo RCA pre-amp outputs or optical and coaxial digital outputs (2 channel PCM only). The analogue output can be set to fixed or variable. The Link pre-amplifier also includes a mono-RCA sub output to connect a powered subwoofer. The HEOS Link allows you to listen to your entire music collection including vinyl and favourite radio stations but all controlled wirelessly from your smartphone or tablet. You can also send your digital music files or tunes from connected sources to other HEOS speakers and components throughout your home. The free HEOS app for your Apple or Android device is your ticket to practically unlimited amounts of music, wherever and whenever you want it.

About HEOS: HEOS by Denon is a wireless multi-room sound system comprising a family of network music amplifiers, pre-amplifiers and speakers for your whole home. The architecture has been developed right here in Australia and is the most advanced system on the market and that is no bull-dust! It really is the best performance. You can enjoy your favourite streaming music services, internet radio, or your own music collection. Plus, set-up is intuitive and simple.

To make HEOS work in your home, you'll need..

  • HEOS network audio amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, and/or speakers
  • A wireless (WiFi) home network with internet connection
  • An Apple iOS or Android device connected to your home wireless (WiFi) network
  • Download the free HEOS app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store onto your Apple iOS (7.0+) or Android (2.3+) device.

Note: The HEOS wireless multi-room sound system can support up to 32 HEOS music amplifiers, pre-amplifiers, players, and/or speakers (sold separately) on a single wireless network.

HEOS Account: Prior to using the system, you'll need to setup up your free HEOS account. Your HEOS account remembers all your settings and preferences such as all your music service logins and HEOS playlists. When you'd like to add multiple smartphone or tablet controllers to your system, you only need to sign in to each new device with your HEOS user name and password. Instantly all your music services and HEOS playlists are available in the new controller too. If you prefer, we support multiple HEOS accounts in a single household. This way, each family member can enjoy their own personalised Pandora or Spotify account settings and still share all the same speakers in the home.

Other Features

Want to listen to live clips from YouTube? Or maybe you have a new music service that's not yet available through the HEOS app? The latest generation of HEOS has you covered. Use Bluetooth to stream any and all audio sources from your phone or tablet through the HEOS 3 (HS2), without restrictions. You can also send that Bluetooth stream to other HEOS speakers. HEOS gives you a wide array of music options. You have access to music stored on your smartphone or tablet, plus downloads stored on a server or computer. That includes your high-resolution music files. The HEOS Link (HS2) product will distribute high-resolution music files (up to 24-bit/192kHz) throughout your home to other HEOS Gen 2 (HS2) product; without any down-sampling. There's also support for Pandora, Tune-In, TIDAL and Rhapsody. Pull up a new song or podcast on SoundCloud, or stream Internet radio from TuneIn or iHeartRadio. And if you're a Spotify Premium subscriber, Spotify Connect lets you play all your favourite albums and playlists.

Easy Wi-Fi Installation

Getting your HEOS Link (HS2) up and running is a snap. It works with your existing Wi-Fi network — no need to plug any device into your router. Once your HEOS Link is set up, it communicates over Wi-Fi with your smartphone or tablet via the free HEOS app, as well as with other HEOS devices to play music throughout your home. One reason people loved the first generation of HEOS was because setup was fast and easy. Denon hasn't changed that even a little bit with their latest series. First download the free HEOS app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store onto your Apple iOS (7.0+) or Android (2.3+) device to your smartphone or tablet, then connect your mobile device headphone output to the Aux input on your HEOS Link (HS2) by using the supplied mini-jack cable. With a few taps of the app, your Wi-Fi settings are automatically transferred. When you unplug the cable, you'll have full wireless control of the speaker. Repeat the same quick process to add additional HEOS wireless speakers by selecting "Add Device" from the HEOS app's menu settings and you can control them all from the same app.

Connect Other Sources For Multi-Room Playback: As mentioned above, the HEOS Link has analogue and digital connections for other music sources like a disc player, USB storage device, pay TV, turntable, portable music players including iPod or streaming media devices. You can send music from any of these connected sources to other HEOS speakers and components throughout your home. Just imagine listening to your audiophile records in every room of your home and all at the best available wireless music system!

Auto Turn On: When you want to play music with the HEOS Link, you'll need to power up your stereo or home theater system. The Link, via the HEOS app, can actually do it for you when you use the infrared (IR) and 12-volt trigger connections on the Link's back panel. These outputs allow you to control a compatible receiver or amplifiers. So even if you're in another room, you can get the music playing instantly.

The Denon Connection

The HEOS Link provides additional convenience for owners of compatible Denon audio components or systems. Connect the included infrared emitter to the HEOS Link IR output and place it so that it's near the front panel of your Denon component. Or, if your Denon has a direct IR input jack, you can connect the HEOS Link via the supplied IR direct cable. Then, via the HEOS App, you can turn your Denon system on and select the appropriate input and enjoy your favourite music tracks. You can choose to listen to different songs in different rooms or play the same song in all rooms. There's also a 12V trigger output that lets you connect the HEOS Link to other devices or products that feature a 12V trigger input, such as motorised drapes or a drop-down motorised front projection screen.

Denon knows a few things about home audio. They've been making great home theater receivers for years, so it's no surprise that the HEOS Link offers rich sound along with plenty of connectivity. Want to fine-tune the sound? There are bass and treble controls in the HEOS app, so you can dial in the perfect tone. It's also a cool-looking, compact component, so it will fit in nicely alongside any stereo or home theatre system.

In The News

"Denon's HEOS system is simply terrific and terrifically simple. As big a fan I am of everything that Sonos has done over the years, I can honestly say that HEOS is the first system in toto that can stand tall next to the Goliathan Sonos and be considered a worthy contender." Click here to read a review from Sound & Vision USA

Our Take

Denon have a great reputation for quality sound products and the HEOS Link (HS2) speaker continues to build on the reputation. The big thing that makes this a stand-out product in an over-supplied market is (1) Bluetooth connectivity and (2) distribution of hi-res music files throughout your home.  Most of us know the benefits of Bluetooth and the HEOS competitors simply don't which ticks another box for a lot of consumers. Also there is the free app. Well everybody these days has an app but the HEOS designers have got this one right and there are a lot of favourable reviews on the net about how intuitive the app is. The HEOS Link (HS2)is a cinch to install. Simply connect the HEOS Link (HS2) pre-amplifier to your home network using an Ethernet cable and the pre-amplifier will appear on the HEOS app on your Apple iOS or Android device as a new room in the Rooms screen. Or use the HEOS app on your mobile device and the included minijack cable to connect the HEOS Link (HS2) wirelessly to your home's WiFi network.
