If you're looking at the ProJect USB V phono pre-amplifier, then more than likely you've got an Amplifier or Home Theatre Receiver with either no Phono circuit or one that's pretty basic, which is 95% the go these days with our HT Receiver models!

This beautiful little product from Pro-Ject is absolutely spot-on for value and frankly is a ridiculously cheap price for something that actually performs so brilliantly. And no, it is not Made In China! Pro-Ject design and make all their products in Europe and to very high standards. This even has a metal case that shields the sensative circuitry from vibration and in particular EMF - electromagentic interference - which is important when dealing with very low electrical signals as per phono devices.

Enjoy The Warmth Of Vinyl: Adding a turntable to your system is like having an open or log fire - an electric radiator may warm you up but you wouldn't want to sit and watch it. There's something uniquely pleasurable about listening to vinyl, something that digital media can't reproduce in quite the same way. While the latest digital formats sound incredible, there's detail and warmth that can't always be expressed in 0s and 1s, crackle that adds character, and live music simply comes to life. And the Pro-Ject Phono Box USBV makes the very most of vinyl, whatever your deck. It even works with Moving Coil cartridges found in the highest of high-end audiophile turntables.

Convert Your Vinyl To Digital: The Pro-Ject Phono Box USBV also has a USB output so you can connect it to a PC or Mac. This is great if you want to preserve your album for special occaison listening - yes, the vinyl stills sounds better - or it is a rare edition that is now out-of-print. All instructions are included and it is as easy as 1, 2, 3 to do. There is also a digitising line-level input (Tape, cassette, etc) on the back, with a Phono/Line selector and record level adjustment on the front panel. No USB cable is included, but unlike our next topic (Interconnects) you've probably got one or two spare.

Interconnects: None of the specialist brands of Phono Pre-Amplifiers come with Interconnects. Of course, you can use any old pair laying around the house, but if these are a pair of "freebies" from something else your not using, do yourself a favour and buy something better. Prices for Interconnects have never been cheaper and before you jump to the conclusion that we're justing trying to flog more gear, note this fact: The output from a CD player is typically 1 Volt, whereas the Pro-Ject Phono Box USBV is only 300mV/1kHz on the Moving Magnet input! This significantly lower output, a fact of analogue technology, is more susceptible to EMF and so a good pair of cables will help minimise this and thus deliver a better sound and that's what analogue is all about - better sound. On something like this Pro-Ject model, I would spend between $35 and $80 depending on the length you require. See Accessories below for the recommendations.
