About The Wharfedale Super Linton Heritage Speakers
The Super Linton Heritage Speakers are the latest in a line of classic Wharfedale speakers that have really hit a chord with current buyers. Even though they look like they're from the swinging 60's these beauties are 100% 21st Century inside which is where it counts. Don't be deceived, these modest looking speakers are real contenders in their class and deserve to be on everyone's must listen list.
The current iteration of the Wharfedale Linton was launched in 2019 and has since become one of the company's most successful loudspeakers... ever! Not only in the number of pairs sold but also in terms of awards, accolades and endorsements from enthusiasts and press alike.
As part of Wharfedale's world-famous heritage series, Linton can boldly but confidently claim to be one of the most astounding value loudspeakers of recent times.
Not only is Linton an exception in design, build, and styling, but its industrial design and acoustic performance have been universally welcomed as a loudspeaker that brings musicality back to music and romance back to home hi-fi.
Still going strong and one of the most sought-after loudspeakers in the market, Linton is going nowhere soon and remains a jewel in the crown of Wharfedale's ever-popular Heritage series.
However, as a brand with more heritage than most and the unparalleled ability to deliver artisan cabinetry, category-leading, and price-point-defying loudspeakers, the Wharfedale Linton's appeal has room to expand.
Staying true to brand heritage and following swiftly in the vein of the recently announced and already incredibly successful Super Denton, Wharfedale is following suit with the introduction of the Super Linton! A new iteration of another classic model, the Super Linton was originally available in the late 1960s as an upgraded version of the then-also successful original Linton models
Unlike the Super Linton of '67, which was' Super' on the basis of mainly improved cabinet design, the new Super Linton is genuinely super in every way. Not detracting from its sister and current Linton, the Super Linton takes one step further in engineering and performance in almost every aspect. The result is a moderately more expensive but extensively more capable loudspeaker that forms the perfect addition to the Heritage series, offering an upgrade path for existing Linton owners but also bridging the gap between the flagship, made in the UK Dovedale model.
Super What and Super How?
Like the original 'Super' concept, the new Super Linton benefits from an enlarged cabinet and propriety Wharfedale 'sandwich' cabinet design that features a resonance-reducing combination of particle board and MDF complemented with a layer of acoustic damping glue.
A new bass unit and a more powerful motor system enhance the low-frequency performance, extending down to 32Hz! This results in a more dramatic and impactful low-end.
For the treble output, Super Linton features a lightweight fabric weave dome coated with special damping material and supported by a ceramic magnet motor system, contributing to its sweet and detailed character. The revised short horn profile ensures smooth response down to the upper midrange, and the new front plate design enhances high-frequency dispersion, matching the transient impact and detailing of the new bass unit.
A new rear chamber for the midrange drive unit works to cancel out mid-band specific back waves by intelligent layers of long-hair fibre, resulting in a more natural prominence of the vocal and instrument frequencies
A new split-PCB crossover design serves to sew the drive units together while avoiding electromagnetic interference. The crossover also benefits from custom-specified components chosen for neutrality and optimum signal transfer. Super Linton even goes as far as employing PE dielectric and LCOFC cabling for pristine signal transfer.
Recognisable as having 'Linton DNA, the Super Linton's ID is a modest update. However, new considerations were made for the driver array and cabinet dimensions. Super Linton sits modestly taller than the current Linton model. This modest increase in dimensions means the Super Linton doesn't require anything different in footprint or spacing - in fact, it is designed to use the same optional Linton Stand for optimum positioning… while the much-cherished benefit of LP storage remains!
Our Take On The Super Linton Heritage
The Wharfedale Super Linton Heritage Speakers honour the vintage charm of the swinging 60s with a distinctly modern twist, blending retro design with advanced 21st-century audio technology. Their understated appearance belies a powerful performance, making them formidable contenders within their category. Following the 2019 release of the current Linton model, which garnered impressive sales and awards, Wharfedale's Super Linton brings further enhancements, preserving Linton's rich legacy while offering an elevated experience. Designed as part of Wharfedale's iconic Heritage series, the Super Linton is engineered for those who appreciate high-quality sound in an attractive, nostalgia-infused package.
True to the original "Super" concept, this new Super Linton iteration is equipped with an enlarged cabinet featuring a proprietary "sandwich" design for reduced resonance, ensuring clean and impactful low-end performance down to 32Hz. The new bass and treble units, coupled with a powerful motor system and innovative crossover design, provide greater detail, smoother response, and extended high-frequency dispersion. Enhanced with features like the split-PCB crossover and LCOFC cabling, the Super Linton's superior signal clarity and natural soundstage bring music to life. Slightly taller than its predecessor yet compatible with the original Linton Stand (available separately), it offers both a functional and aesthetic upgrade for music enthusiasts while preserving the convenience of LP storage - a beloved feature among collectors.
