About The Yamaha R-S202 Stereo Receiver
An entry-priced Hi-Fi Receiver featuring the outstanding sound quality and clean design that has made Yamaha famous and of course a popular choice. The R-S202 was created by taking advantage of this rich experience and high technological expertise developed over the last 125 years. Bluetooth compatibility provides instant wireless access to all the music on your smartphone or other devices.
Yamaha's R-S202 is a great option for anyone looking to power a simple stereo setup at a budget price. Built on decades of audio expertise and based on the concept of Natural Sound", for reproducing all music as it really sounds, as well as applying scrupulous care from circuit design to basic sound production, the R-S202 delivers smooth, natural Yamaha sound to two pairs of speakers simultaneously. Connect up to four line-level components - for example a CD player - and take advantage of the R-S202's built-in Bluetooth to stream any music you want from your compatible mobile device.
High Power Output Stereo Stereo Amplification: The Yamaha R-S202 stereo receiver employs a 100 Watt stereo (40-20kHz, 8-ohms, 0.2% THD) high-drive amplifier with a quality and tested design that is not only class-leading but also minimises the length of signal routes and optimises the circuit layout. Yamaha located the power transformer near the power amp circuit to reduce power loss, while improving peak power supply capacity to enable high volume output. The signal ground and power supply ground are connected at one point, eliminating mutual interference to achieve a higher S/N ratio. The result is sound filled with clarity and a feeling of openness.
Built-in Bluetooth: The Yamaha R-S202 features built-in Bluetooth allowing you to stream stored music and music apps on your Bluetooth-enabled Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad, Android smartphone/tablet, Windows PC/Phone, or Mac laptop/computer to the stereo receiver. In addition to the standard SBC Bluetooth codec, the receiver also supports the AAC codec for higher quality sound from Apple iPod/iPhone/iPad devices. You will still control music playback functions and view song/artist information from your Bluetooth-enabled source device.
Analogue Inputs/Output: The Yamaha R-S202 features four analogue stereo RCA inputs to connect up to four audio components, and a single stereo RCA record output to connect to a CD-recorder or other recording device.
AM/FM Tuner With Presets: The Yamaha R-S202 stereo receiver features a built-in AM/FM tuner with manual, seek, and preset tuning. The R-S202 lets you store up to 40 AM/FM station presets. Frequencies appear on the display, so even when you want to listen to a new station, you can easily tune to its frequency.Auto preset lets you automatically search for and register FM stations that can be received in your area. An indoor FM wire antenna and AM loop antenna are included with the receiver but are only useful if you are close to the radio station transmitter
A & B Speaker Terminals: The R-S202 is fitted with A & B speaker terminals so you can connect up to two pair of speakers. The speaker selector switch on the front-panel of the receiver makes it easy to switch between speaker outputs, allowing you to hear the sound from one pair of speakers (A or B) or from both pairs of speaker (A+B). The eight spring-clip speaker terminals will accept bare wire but not banana plugs. We would recommend either QED Profile 42 or QED Profile 79 speaker cable.
Our Take Yamaha R-S202 Stereo Receiver
The R-S202 stereo receiver is a good alternative to a one-brand compact system. It delivers a genuine 100 Watts RMS per channel and this allows you to connect up a serious range of speakers. It does not have a phono input but that is easily solved with the addition of either a phono preamplifier (sold separately) or by purchasing a turntable with an in-built pre-amplifier. The AM/FM tuner - if it is to be used - is subject to the usual problems associated with ALL receivers at ALL price-points. Reception quality is dependant on (1) distance from the radio transmitter; (2) the topography where you live and (3) the type of antenna you use. If radio is important, then look at the R-N301 receiver which delivers the same audio performance but has network capabilities which allow you to connect to the Internet where there are reportedly over 100,000 stations to choose from! Connections are via spring-clips but these still allow connection of some good quality speaker cable. If you are looking for a basic receiver with decent output and at a bargain price then this hits the mark.
