About Yamaha R-N602 Receiver; Wharfedale 12.2 Speakers
Not everyone wants a Home Theatre Receiver but there has been a cry from radio fans to give them the latest networking functions in a product without the extra perceived complications. That feedback prompted Yamaha to design the R-N500. The R-N602 builds on that success but adds Yamaha MusicCast - the easy way to expand your music into various rooms and unleash all the music from your smartphone or tablet not in one room but through every room. You still get all the latest network capability. You can still enjoy 1000's of radio stations from around the world via the Internet. Where many stereo Receivers stop short of streaming music options, the R-N602 embraces them all with full support for Apple AirPlay and DLNA-compatible devices. Connect this Receiver to your home network router and turn your compatible computer, smartphone or tablet into bona fide wireless sources. Enjoy sweet music alongside your CD or Blu-ray player, record player, and other components thanks to the R-N602's high-power, low-noise construction.
Audio Quality Not Sacrificed: Yamaha employs their tried and tested ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology) design concept, which combines the latest and best technologies, components and circuit designs to maximise sound quality. It is what we call High Current Amplification and this design uses superior quality components from input to output to achieve high current power with low impedance drive capability. In other words, the R-N602 will handle with ease a wide range of speaker systems even those rated at 4 Ohm impedance. With 80 Watts of full-bandwidth power per channel at 8 Ohms with only 0.04% THD, the R-N602 delivers solid, reliable audio performance even when driving both A & B speakers - another popular inclusion from the past - at the same time. Consumers will also be happy that the unit has bass, treble and loudness controls which can also be bypassed if preferred.
The free MusicCast app can be downloaded for Apple (iOS 7.1+) iPod/iPhone/iPad and Android (OS4.1+) smartphones/tablets. The MusicCast app puts control of your whole home listening experience in the palm of your hand from your Apple iOS or Android device. You'll be able to quickly select the room or rooms you want to listen to music in, select the source or sources you want to listen to, browse music content from your music library and online music services or Internet Radio, plus control music playback functions. The R-N602 is supplied in Black but can be supplied in Silver at no extra charge but you will need to phone to check availability and to order. Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 Speakers
The Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 is the largest compact speaker in the '12-Series' range and is suited to medium to larger rooms where the 165mm (6.5”) mid/bass driver can really strut its stuff. With the dramatic clean-sheet redesign of the Diamond 12 range, spearheaded by world-renowned speaker designer Karl-Heinz Fink, Wharfedale have once again raised the bar for what affordable audiophile quality speakers can achieve. At the price, and even well above it, you'll discover that these Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 speakers are rather hard to top and why we've combined them with the Yamaha R-N602 Network Stereo Receiver with it's top-art audio technology.
Klarity Driver – The Difference Is Clear:Since the Diamond 8 Series in 2001, Wharfedale has made the mid/bass cones for every Diamond generation from Kevlar. 20 plus years and many award-wining ranges later, Wharfedale has developed a new composite called Klarity. The chief ingredient of Klarity is polypropylene, a material that has been used to make speaker cones since the BBC researched its use for this purpose in the 1970s. Polypropylene cones are renowned for their characteristically low distortion and controlled ‘breakup’, as well as their resistance to moisture in the air. They also have a reputation in some quarters for sounding a little ‘unexciting’ – a perception that is largely the result of mediocre engineering. When designed and implemented optimally, polypropylene cones can sound enthralling.
Refined Tweeter & Crossover:The Diamond 12 Series’ treble unit sports a 25mm dome made from a woven polyester film with a high-loss coating to deliver open and smoothly extended high frequencies. The magnet system and the front plate have been optimised for wide dispersion and uncompressed behaviour. The front plate is flat and exposes the dome as much as possible, with a short duct to balance the acoustic load and improve the SPL (sound pressure level) measurement.
Rear Port:The rear-ported enclosure of each model is precisely sized so that the internal volume works in harmony with the drive unit system to deliver the desired sonic result. The cabinet walls are made from sections of wood fibreboard of varying thickness, constructed in such a way as to subdue the identifiable characteristics of the cabinet’s ‘sound’ and ensure the drivers’ output remains unsullied. The resonant properties of each element – even the glue – were considered to determine the ideal combination of materials and placement. Inside the cabinet, Intelligent Spot Bracing connects opposing walls with a specific form of wood brace to achieve optimal reduction of cabinet resonance. These braces are precisely modelled by computer simulation to improve upon the commonplace ‘figure of eight’ brace, which can have the effect of transferring resonance from one wall to another.
Pre-Terminated Speaker Cable: QED Profile 79 Strand speaker cable is literally a legend in its own lifetime. This description is for 2 x 1.5 Metres of QED Profile 79 speaker cable supplied and fitted with UK made 4mm Deltron banana plugs. This cable is ideal for good quality modestly priced systems like the one featured here. Other lengths and white are also available, so just give us a call on (03) 9874-8233 if you need something different.
The Yamaha R-N602 is the Swiss Army Knife of Stereo Receivers. It seems to have a feature for every conceivable use. Taking up where the ever popular R-N500 left off the R-N602 not only has a well designed AM/FM Tuner on board but it also has a great sounding amplifier section bound to woo the keenest music lover. But wait, there's more. As well as the usual analogue connections (including a turntable input & subwoofer out) the R-N602 includes a really useful array of digital inputs which mean you can hook up (big breath), an iPod, iPhone, iPad or thumb drive to the front USB port, a Yamaha wireless adaptor to the rear USB port, a TV to the optical port and your computer network to the ethernet port. Sounds like any port in a storm. And thats just some of the physical connections. The wireless capabilities will likely blow your mind (I'm still putting mine back together). One of the truly biggest innovations with this rip snorting product is the introduction of Yamaha MusicCast which is explained in greater detail above but basically enables you to use the wonderfully designed Yamaha App to control all your music all over your house from your smartphone or tablet. Hmmmm. If we're nit-picking we have to admit it won't make you toast & coffee for breakfast - but maybe that's next years update.
The Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 is a compact speaker that is designed to take no prisoners with its wide breadth of abilities. A pair can be mounted on speaker stands or a substantial sideboard and are compact enough to not dominate visually but are sizeable enough to provide ample room filling sound in medium to larger spaces. They are also the perfect candidate for a nice, music orientated subwoofer such as a REL if you want all the benefits of full range sound and the impact of deeper bass. They are only a little taller than a vinyl record whilst employing a smooth sounding 25mm (1”) textile dome tweeter for the high frequencies and an advanced 165mm (6.5”) Klarity mid/bass driver for the rest of the frequency range. Beautifully styled in a range of contemporary finishes, this speaker deserves to be top of your list if a medium size bookshelf speaker with real presence is what you are after.
