About AudioQuest Golden Gate RCA Cable

The AudioQuest Golden Gate RCA stereo interconnect cable is terminated by gold-plated male stereo RCA connectors on each end. This latest range of audio interconnects deliver a performance level and price that just a few years ago would have been simply impossible.

The AudioQuest Golden Gate Series of interconnect cables bring together some of their most advanced designs and materials all in a budget-priced, but good quality item. They can be relied upon to deliver excellent sound quality from a cable that's still relatively lightweight. With its Golden Gate cables, AudioQuest has put high-end performance within the target range of price conscious music lovers.

Solid Perfect-Surface Copper Conductors (PSC): Perfect-Surface Copper has an astonishingly smooth and pure surface. Proprietary metal-processing technology protects the wire's surface at every stage of drawing and fabrication. When high-purity low-oxide copper is kept as soft, pure and smooth as possible, it becomes a wonderfully low-distortion conductor. For over 30 years AudioQuest has pioneered the use of superior metals; yet even we were surprised by this huge leap in performance. PSC clearly outperforms previous AQ metals that cost over ten times as much. Electrical and magnetic interaction between strands in a conventional cable is the greatest source of distortion, often causing a somewhat dirty, harsh sound. Solid conductors are fundamental toward achieving Golden Gate's very clean sound.

Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy (loss). Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. Golden Gate uses air-filled Foamed-Polyethylene Insulation on both conductors because air absorbs next to no energy and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile. Thanks to all the air in Foamed-PE, it causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.

Metal-Layer Noise-Dissipation System (NDS): 100% shield coverage is easy. Preventing captured RF Interference from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System. Noise-Dissipation System prevents a significant amount of RFI from reaching the equipment's ground plane.

Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry: Purpose designed for single-ended applications, Double-Balanced Asymmetrical Geometry offers a relatively lower impedance on the ground for a richer, and more dynamic experience. While many single-ended cable designs use a single path for both the ground and the shield, Double-Balanced designs separate the two for cleaner, quieter performance.

Cold-Welded Gold-Plated RCA Plugs: This plug design allows for a connection devoid of solder, which is a common source of distortion. Because the ground shells are stamped instead of machined, the metal can be chosen for low distortion instead of machinability.

Inspiration: The AudioQuest Golden Gate Series is part of their "Bridge" series and I'm sure you've all heard of that magnificent structure in California. Having walked part of the way across, I was fascinated in this bit of history provided by AudioQuest. The San Francisco Peninsula reaching up from the south, and Marin County stretching down from the north, almost touch, was named "Chrysopylea," meaning "golden gate," by Captain John C. Fremont in 1846. The Golden Gate Bridge was the longest suspension bridge in the world from 1937 to 1964, when New York City's Verrazano Narrows surpassed it by a mere 18 metres. The main span is 1,280 metres long and 27 metres wide, the towers rise to 227 metres above the water.

About AudioQuest

AudioQuest has been the largest cable supplier to the high-end specialist market for several decades and is sold in over sixty countries. Founder Bill Lowe is especially pleased that this success has been possible despite his insistence that the foundation of the company, and the foundation of AudioQuest marketing, must be the performance of the product and when he visited Audio Trends a couple of years back we were convinced of this by his genuine sincerity. In the audio world, many professionals have learned that it is not always convenient to listen to the products they sell … they might learn something they don't want to know! Bill has always understood the challenge of basing the existence of AudioQuest on the performance of the product. However, to Bill, this is the only reasonable way to do business and the only acceptable way to combine his passion for music (and all things high performance), with his need to make a living.

Our Take

This is a very good cable at a modest price. Unlike older style interconnects, it's very thin, flexible and low-key. It connects on to your component nice and tight and sound quality is excellent. Some people say they can't hear a difference between cable types, but some people also say they can't tell the difference between a WAV and a compressed MP3! If you're dropping thousand's on high-end audio, the least you should do is make sure your analogue interconnecting cables are high quality and with all the real-world listening/testing the folk at AudioQuest do, you are assured of performance and value with the Golden Gate series of cables.
