Solid 5% Silver-Plated Copper Conductors: In AudioQuest Subwoofer cables, increasingly thick layers of silver plating are applied to AudioQuest's Long-Grain Copper (LGC) conductors to enhance articulation and intelligibility. Placing the superior metal on the outside of the conductor produces the greatest benefit on overall performance - a superbly cost-effective way to maximise cable quality. Husky cables use 5% Silver-Plated Copper conductors for improved subwoofer performance.
Polyethylene Air-Tube Insulation: Any solid material adjacent to a conductor is actually part of an imperfect circuit. Wire insulation and circuit board materials all absorb energy. Some of this energy is stored and then released as distortion. AudioQuest, however, uses Polyethylene Air-Tube Insulation on both conductors, for increased geometry stabilisation and improved clarity. Because air absorbs next to no energy and Polyethylene is low-loss and has a benign distortion profile, Polyethylene Air-Tube Insulation, with its high air content, causes much less of the out-of-focus effect common to other materials.
Triple-Balanced Geometry: AudioQuest's Triple-Balanced Geometry uses a separate ground-reference conductor, so the cable's shield is never used as an inferior conductor. Whether prepared with RCA or XLR plugs, the cable's three conductors ensure that the positive and negative signals have equally superior, low-distortion conducting paths.
Dielectric-Bias System With Radio Frequency Trap: All insulation between two or more conductors is also a dielectric whose properties will affect the integrity of the signal. When the dielectric is unbiased, dielectric-involvement (absorption and non-linear release of energy) causes different amounts of time delay (phase shift) for different frequencies and energy levels, which is a real problem for very time-sensitive multi-octave audio. The inclusion of an RF Trap (developed for AudioQuest's Niagara Series of power products), ensures that radio-frequency noise will not be induced into the signal conductors from the Dielectric-Bias System field elements.
AudioQuest's patented 72v Dielectric Bias System (DBS) puts all of a cable's dielectric into a strong, stable electrostatic field which saturates (organizes) the molecules of the insulation ... continuously from the time the cable is terminated. This exceptionally simple design uses a wire down the middle of the cable, which is simply an extension of a battery's anode. This wire is attached to negative (-) of a DBS battery pack, and nothing else. It is not in the signal path and has no interaction with the signal. This DBS technology helps to provide an exceptionally low noise floor which is clearly audible.
Carbon-Based 4-Layer Noise-Dissipation System: It's not so difficult to accomplish 100% shield coverage but actually preventing captured Radio Frequency Interference (RFI) from modulating the equipment's ground reference requires AQ's Noise-Dissipation System (NDS). Traditional shield systems typically absorb and then drain noise/RF energy to component ground, modulating and distorting the critical "reference" ground plane, which in turn causes a distortion of the signal. AudioQuest's Noise-Dissipation System's alternating layers of metal and carbon-loaded synthetics "shield the shield," absorbing and reflecting most of this noise/RF energy before it reaches the layer attached to ground.
Grounding Wire: Sometimes, in your home theatre or stereo system, there can be a hum problem when a subwoofer is connected. If you encounter this hum problem, try attaching the little spade-lug tails to the metal chassis of the subwoofer amplifier and to the chassis of the 'sending' amplifier or receiver. Usually, this extra wire will not be needed.
State-Of-The-Art Terminations: Heat is usually used to either solder or resistance weld cables to plugs but this introduces an undesirable intermediary layer. AudioQuest's Cold-Weld System solves this problem with a superior connection that ensures that the structural integrity of the conductor and plug is kept completely intact without the damaging effect of heat. The conductor and plug being joined is subjected to several tons of pressure resulting in a nearly perfect low-distortion connection. In addition, rather than using the customary phosphor-bronze or beryllium coppers (which are much harder alloys and therefore easier to machine), AudioQuest pushes the art by using high-purity pure copper (not alloy) as the base metal. Pure copper is softer and therefore more difficult to machine, but the sonic results are more than worth the added effort!
AudioQuest also pays special attention to the plating it uses over the high-purity copper base and, because it is a much better conductor, silver is used instead of gold, with the performance actually slightly improving over time with the natural oxidation process of the silver. A jewellery-like shine to plugs is often achieved by using intermediary layers of nickel, however this only diminishes the quality of the termination. At AudioQuest, performance is not compromised for an "eye-candy" appearance. All AudioQuest silver-plated connectors such as those used on the Husky subwoofer cable are Direct-Silver plated for the least distortion and the best possible performance.
Inspiration: Now here's a little info about the animal this cable is named after. This strikingly beautiful breed has a delightful temperament combined with keen intelligence and equally acute independence of spirit. While Huskies are rarely the best choice for watchdog functions (because of their overwhelming instinct to run at any and every opportunity), Huskies have an ability to learn that has been described as "staggering." The Husky's natural instincts have developed from its historical origins as sled dogs for nomadic Siberian tribes to become loving and playful family dogs. DNA analysis has found that the Husky is one of the world's oldest dog breeds. I can also say from personal experience that the female is smaller and very attractive. Whenever we walked her along the Warburton Rail trail, she was the centre of attraction! They need plenty of exercise and a 'jump-proof' fence otherwise they will be out and on the run. I suppose I had now better buy a Husky sub cable!
