About The Bowers & Wilkins FS600 S3 Speaker Stands
Get the best performance from your Bowers & Wilkins 600 series standmount speakers, or other speakers of similar size, with the Bowers & Wilkins FS-600 S3 speaker stands. Available in Black or Silver, these all metal stands use dual column construction and allow for mass loading with Atacama Atabites. They include metal floor spikes and rubber feet and for the first time the top plates allow Bowers & Wilkins 606 S3 and 607 S3 speakers to be screwed to the stands.
This elegant floor stand raises the speakers to the correct listening height and provides a stable, rigid support ensuring that you get the very best from your speakers and that is whether they are Bowers & Wilkins or some other quality brand. The heavy, cast iron base ensures stability and the extruded aluminium columns may be filled with Atacama Atabites to add mass and damping. The spike foot option should be used when the stands are to be placed on a carpeted floor. The spikes pierce the carpet to rest on the surface underneath. Adjust the spikes to ensure that the stands are vertical and don't rock.
Why Do You Need Speaker Stands?
That question is often quickly followed up with another: "Can't they just sit on the floor?" The truth is you can put the speakers wherever you like but the location and positioning absolutely and significantly affect performance. When bookshelf sized speakers are placed on the floor or against a wall their sonic output becomes 'connected' to the floor or walls. This results in sound that is muddy, distorted and lacking in clarity. Speaker stands elevate and isolate speakers from floors and walls. The sound becomes clearer and cleaner with much better imaging and a greater sense of realism.
Timber Floors? No problems! UK brands Quadraspire and Atacama manufacture what we affectionately call 'spike shoes' that sit under each spike and thus eliminate damage to timber flooring. They can also be used on tile or stone floors. They are an optional extra accessory which we highly recommend. Of course, you can use the included rubber 'buttons' but spikes and spike shoes will deliver superior performance.
How To Make Stands Even Better: Where appropriate - like here with the Bowers & Wilkins Stands - the centre post/tubes are hollow and can be 'filled' to further dampen vibrations, help minimise unwanted resonances and as a bonus extra, provide added stability. Atacama Gel Pads (sold separately) will add 10mm to the overall height. However, to make your stands sound even better, Audio Trends recommend that you fill the stands with Atacama Atabites inert filler to achieve maximum sonic performance. Up to 10.4KG can be used per pair.
