About The Bowers & Wilkins FS805 D4 Speaker Stands
Like most stand mount speakers, the Bowers & Wilkins D805 D4 work best when positioned in their ideal listening position and at the correct height. The elegant FS805 D4 stands handle both tasks perfectly, providing a stable, rigid support and are available in complementary black or silver finishes. Their design includes dual curved columns which echo the shape of the speakers and a top plate that is exactly tailored to the 805 D4. For added security the stands screw to the bottom of the speakers which is a nice touch.
They also feature two internal spaces inside each column. One smaller space at the back runs top to bottom and allows you to thread medium sized speaker cable through from the top of the stand all the way to the underside of the base where the speaker cable exits giving a nice clean in room look. The other larger space also runs top to bottom but is sealed once the stand has been put together. This space is designed to hold a high density inert filler, such as Atacama Atabites, which will reduce ringing and add stability to the stands. These really work and we highly recommend their use.
Compatibility: The Bowers & Wilkins FS805 D4 speaker stand has been designed by Bowers & Wilkins to perfectly match their 805 D4 loudspeakers (sold separately). The FS805 D4 places the speakers at the perfect height for optimum audio performance. The 805 D4 loudspeakers are secured to the stand using the included hardware and the threaded inserts under the loudspeaker. This speaker stand can also be used with other brands of stand mount loudspeakers of similar size and weight (however, there is no hardware to secure other brands of speakers to the stand).
High-Quality Construction: The Bowers & Wilkins FS805 D4 speaker stand uses aluminium, steel, and MDF construction. The top-plate is made of solid steel, while the bottom base is made of heavy-duty MDF. The upright post is made of aluminium and is hollow so you can add filler to it to make the stand even heavier. It comes in a black or silver finish.
Cable Management: The rubber or spike feet of the speaker stand raise it off the floor enough so you can route your speaker wire under the base and up through the hollow upright post to your mounted loudspeaker.
Rubber & Spike Feet: The FS805 D4 speaker stand includes rubber and spike feet. Use the rubber feet for hardwood, tile, vinyl, and laminate flooring. Use the spike feet for carpeted flooring. The rubber or spike feet screw into the bottom of the stand. The feet are adjustable, so you can level the speaker stand on uneven floors.
Why Do You Need Speaker Stands?
That question is often quickly followed up with another: "Can't they just sit on the floor?" The truth is you can put the speakers wherever you like but the location and positioning absolutely and significantly effect performance. When bookshelf sized speakers are placed on the floor or against a wall their sonic output becomes 'connected' to the floor or walls. This results in sound that is muddy, distorted and lacking in clarity. Speaker stands elevate and isolate speakers from floors and walls. Sound is clearer and cleaner with much better imaging and a greater sense of realism.
Timber Floors? No problems! The FS805 D4 stands are not only supplied with spiked feet for use on carpet but also with rubber feet which are perfect for any hard surface you don't want to scratch or mark such as timber, tiled or concrete floors.
How To Make Stands Even Better: Where appropriate - like here with the Bowers & Wilkins FS805 D4 Stands - the columns are hollow and can be 'filled' to further dampen vibrations & help minimise unwanted resonances and as a bonus extra, provide added stability. To make your stands sound better, Audio Trends recommend that you fill the stands with Atacama Atabites SMD-Z 7.5HD inert filler to achieve maximum sonic performance. Up to 10.4KG can be used per pair.
Note: Due to its corrosive properties, we do not recommend filling the columns with building or beach sand.
