About The Garrott Bros. K1 MM Phono Cartridge
Beginning in the late 1970s, the Garrott Brothers started producing a highly distinguished line of MM cartridges that is even more popular than ever.
Vinyl enthusiasts with long memories will remember the Garrott Brothers and their excellent line of phono cartridges which were based on the Decca designs from the UK. The company met a sudden end with the sad death of its two principals in 1992, but has since been reorganized by one of their most passionate devotee's and so it is truly delightful to see their phono cartridges available once again.
Garrott K1: The first of the Garrott cartridges has a conical stylus, which may seem a bit ordinary until you remember that even some classic cartridges had conical or even spherical stylus tips in the 1950's and 1960's! So, it is not a bad thing and will still out perform any of the OEM cartridges which both were and are common. The K1 is a very good step up from these types of cartridge or even as a step up from the old Shure Cartridges which, in their day, were "the step up!" The K1 is compatible with most turntables/arms of the "detachable headshell" or one-piece tubular type and with the usual sort of MM (moving magnet) phono stages found in amplifiers.

If you have recently rediscovered your vinyl or have bought an older secondhand Turntable that deserves something a lot better in the way of a new phono cartridge, but want to keep the price acceptable, then the Garrott Brothers K1 is a great choice. Reality is that it isn't much more than your basic OEM cartridge like those from Audio Technica and Ortofon that even we sell for around the $100 mark and yet will deliver a huge diffence in performance.
