About The Garrott Brothers K2 MM Phono Cartridge
Beginning in the late 1970s, the Garrott Brothers started producing a highly distinguished line of MM cartridges that is even more popular than ever.
Vinyl enthusiasts with long memories will remember the Garrott Brothers and their excellent line of phono cartridges which were based on the Decca designs from the UK. The company met a sudden end with the sad death of its two principals in 1992, but has since been reorganized by one of their most passionate devotee's and so it is truly delightful to see their phono cartridges available once again.
Garrott K2: Second up in the Garrott cartridges, the K2 has an elliptical stylus, which hugs or rides the groove better than the conical stylus found in the K1. This simply means it will deliver even better sound! Like the K1, the K2 is compatible with Turntable/Tonearm combinations of the "detachable headshell" or one-piece tubular type and so is easy to install. Specifications are the same as the K1, so what you're paying for is the superior Elliptical stylus. Your amplifier will need to have a dedicated phono input or you will need a separate phono preamplifier and maybe another pair of interconnects. Installation is a DIY job or we can do it for a small fee.

Is your Turntable/Record player relatively new, of high quality and still fitted with the basic OEM cartridge? Or is it an older Turntable of very high quality that deserves something a lot better in the way of a new phono cartridge and stylus? Then the Garrott Brothers K2 should be on your short list. Why? Firstly it is a great sounding cartridge and the addition of the elliptical stylus over the K1 will deliver rich sonic rewards with more detail being revealed and especially on the newer 200-220 gram pressings. Next reason is that it is not a 'fussy' cartridge to install and is compatible with most Turntable/Tonearm combinations (except Linear Tracking/P-Mount/Plastic Fantastics) built in the traditional style with a 1/2" mounting.
