About The Pro-Ject Q UP
A simple mechanical device that raises the tonearm when your record comes to the end. Suitable for manual Turntables/Record Players only.
There have been a lot of accessories that were supposed to lift the tonearm at the end of the record. Some tried to throw the tonearm at the ceiling; and some simply didn't work—often with a notable bang as the cartridge skidded across the record's grooves. Ouch! The Q Up automatic tonearm lift is the exception and actually does work.
The Q UP is a high precision device that safely lifts your tonearm at the end of the record. The Q UP can be installed in minutes, without tools and is designed to fit on most manual turntables with configuration for a variety of tonearm heights, thicknesses and shapes. Based upon a trigger and lift design, it has recently been reborn and modernised to work with either classic or contemporary turntable / tonearm combinations.
The Q UP only interacts with the tonearm at the end of record and does NOT adversely effect the tonal quality of your system in any way. No need to worry about falling asleep with your record playing or forgetting it is playing if you get distracted like someone famous here did when they went on 6 weeks vacation!
Q Up Review
"A little device that you attach near the pivot of your tonearm to automatically lift the stylus off the record at the end of an LP side. A boon to the analog lover - and the lazy." The Absolute Sound Editors' Choice Awards 2023
What's In The Box?
The Q UP consists of a rectangular black column with a lever attached to it that you place toward the rear of your tonearm. (Various adhesive blocks allow for height adjustment.) With the Q Up installed the tonearm glides over the riser lever until it hits a triggering lever at the end of the LP, which makes the riser lever lift the tonearm off the record.
You can adjust the speed of the lift so it only moves the tonearm with the force necessary to cleanly escape the inner groove with minimal sound. The lift device also slides backward and forward, so you can experiment with a range of records and make sure that it will not lift too soon with longer records that have only minimal return grooves.
It is adjustable and doesn't cost a real lot of money. According to Q UP, their product will work with the following conventional height turntable/tonearm combinations.
Thorens - Linn Sondek - Oracle - Clear Audio - J.A. Michell Transrotor A.R. - EAT - Sota - Music Hall - Kuzma Kenwood - Dunlop Systemdeck - Luxman - Empire - VPI - Avid - Artemis - Goldmund - Transporter - SME - EAR - Pro-Ject (Not Debut Series) - McIntosh.
To install on Turntables with a low profile like Rega and Pro-Ject Debut Series you will need to do a simple modification. The Q UP works well with these turntables as long as you set it up without the base unit. It will require some simple DIY modification in order to be compatible.
