QED Performance Audio 40i RCA Interconnect builds on the strengths of the original Performance Audio 40, and delivers an even more enjoyable and convincing sound - without affecting its prodigious value for money. Using the principles laid down in its industry-defining Genesis Report, as well as some startlingly original technology (including the ground-breaking Solid Complementary Conductors and Anamate plugs), QED has created an interconnect that puts as much distance between itself and its nominal competition as the original Performance Audio 40 did in 2013.
Performance Audio 40i shares an almost identical construction and geometry with the award winning Reference and Signature Audio 40 analogue interconnects, omitting only the most expensive components. Through use of QED's Complementary Conductor Technology, Anamate RCA plugs and floating Ferrite insulation, Performance Audio 40i provides timing and detail to a level rarely delivered by even the most expensive of analogue interconnects.
A special floating Zn/Mn Ferrite jacket is used within the cordage to absorb very high frequency noise components outside of the audible band that have an adverse effect on the micro-timing of the audio signal. With cables, The QED goal is to replicate as closely as possible the input signal at the cable output. Timing errors mean frequencies have been disrupted and the signal sent by your source equipment has not been accurately replicated. When measured at very high frequencies, these cables do exhibit cleaner signal transmission than your ordinary audio interconnects.
Anamate RCA Plugs: The QED Anamate plug is a variation of the innovative QED Analoc RCA plug found in Reference and Signature Audio 40 cables. A hollow oxygen free copper central pin is used to improve high frequency detail in the same way as the X-Tube speaker cables. To reduce swirling 'eddy currents' (that would otherwise oppose signal flow) a unique low mass plug design using two small, high purity copper ground leaves is used. Like putting wooden wheels on a Ferrari, conventional RCA phono plugs have the potential to undo all of the hard work carried out by our carefully designed cordage. With QED Anamate plugs the fidelity of the audio signal is maintained form start to finish.
Solid Complementary Conductor Technology: Beneath the PVC jacket, braided foil shield, ferrite jacket and foamed polyethylene dielectric are two solid, electrically isolated and oxygen-free copper conductors of different diameters. Using two wholly separate conductors (one copper, one silver-plated) to carry the audio signal provides the most complete, least compromised route for audio information to travel. The resulting sound enjoys greater scale and three-dimensionality than has been previously achievable from an interconnect of this price, and helps QED maintain both its reputation as an innovator and a class-leader.

Today, we call it a budget-to-mid-priced cable, but really it offers very good performance at a silly price. Like the cable, we would suggest this for budget-to-mid-priced components but that's not to put it down or those products down, but like everything it is always best to have a good all-round match.
