Sonus faber Lumina III Floorstanding Speakers

The Lumina III is a compact and elegant floorstander, the perfect choice for any mid-sized room and able to provide a broad frequency response, gorgeous dynamic impact and a beautiful midrange presentation.

The Lumina III is the smallest floorstanding speaker in the collection, honoured with six awards in its first year. The reviewers have recognized the speaker as nicely finished and visually attractive, capable of playing different music genres without sounding rough, all at a low price, a welcome addition to the audio canon.

Talking of canon's, the Lumina III certainly offers a lot of fire power for the money. This three-way floorstander looks subtly elegant in room but when the music starts there is no doubt who's in charge. With the signature Sonus faber midrange revealing a wealth of layered detail in vocals and acoustic instruments and twin bass drivers lending significant bottom end reinforcement the Lumina III offers enthusiastic performance with natural verve that many will find alluring.

The Lumina III is true Sonus faber and features all the iconic elements of the brand including natural sound, natural materials, artisan finishes typical of Italian craftsmanship and manufacturing carefully carried out in the Sonus faber facility in Vicenza, Italy

The Lumina collection by Sonus faber presents an exciting change, new to the typical Sonus faber product design portfolio but still able to embody the history and values of the brand. "Simplicity" is central to the collection's identity that aims to reach a wide audience and to deliver a luxury music experience in all Sonus faber homes, which is facilitated through their longstanding tradition of refined materials and careful craftsmanship.

Luxury, Minimalist, Natural: The simple and squared design of the Lumina models was chosen to emphasize the quality of materials used. This principal of minimalism directly captures the essence of the product, thoughtfully designed in conjunction with the theory that "less is more".

The Lumina collection boasts the core values of Sonus faber and the use of its iconic materials, including leather, natural composition of drivers, and real multilayer wood available in Walnut and Wenge wood with Maple matte inlay and Piano Black gloss finishes. All items pay tribute to Sonus faber's historic heritage and are made in Italy.

The collection is offered at an accessible price point without compromising sound performance, empowering everyone to enjoy a true Sonus faber experience.

A Closer Look

Tweeter: The iconic D.A.D. (Damped Apex Dome™) tweeter, the same used in the Sonetto series, features a Kurtmueller hand coated soft silk diaphragm of 29mm. The chrome rings around the drivers highlight shapes and proportions and give brightness to the front baffle while outlining the Voice of Sonus faber.

Midrange: The 6" midrange also comes from the high end Sonetto range and features Sonus faber's proprietary natural fibre and paper blend air-dried diaphragm for the most natural and dynamic midrange possible.

Dual Bass: The twin 6" woofers were designed from scratch for the Lumina line and feature the proprietary natural fibre and paper blend air-dried diaphragm for perfect sonic coherence with the rest of the drivers and also some stonkingly dynamic bass.

Crossover: Lumina's high quality crossover has been specially designed using Sonus faber's own top shelf capacitors to seamless handle the transition from one driver to the next.

Multi-Layer Wood Front Baffle: Among the materials selected for this line, what stands out is the Lumina's multi-layer wood on the front baffle and the real wood veneer, available in iconic premium finishes including walnut & wenge, both in matte finish with maple inlays, and with a third option available in piano gloss black. All other surfaces of the cabinet are hand covered in Sonus faber's iconic black leather.

Reflex Port: The reflex port gives additional versatility on the floorstanding models as it's placed on the base, firing down. Thanks to this solution Lumina III and Lumina V speakers are significantly less sensitive to their placement, allowing them to sound excellent even when placed close to a back wall. This allows for greater flexibility whilst always ensuring you enjoy great performance and an enriching listening experience.

Terminals: Lumina speakers are provided with two pairs of nickel-plated binding posts, allowing for an upgrade experience provided by bi-wiring or, especially, bi-amping.

A Complete Home Cinema System Awaits: The Lumina Collection is perfect for stereo listening, allowing you to perceive all the sound subtleties and emotional nuances of music, closely replicating a live music experience. If you're looking to get more out of your system, Lumina is also an ideal protagonist for a multi-channel system for viewing sports, films or TV.

Providing more emphasis and substance to action scenes, dialogues and soundtracks, Lumina stereo and centre speakers perfectly pair with the REL T/x subwoofers which are available in a range of sizes to suit the various speakers. Sonus faber Lumina speakers & REL subwoofers combine to create a 5.1 Home Theatre system that offers a rich, articulated sound that provides possibilities for growth and modification tailored to your space and listening needs.

The Lumina collection was first introduced in September 2020, during a difficult and unprecedented year. Despite the challenge, Sonus faber was able to embody their history, spirit and brand values with the new collection that presented an exciting change, new to the typical Sonus faber product design portfolio.

The premiere Lumina models included the bookshelf two-way Lumina I, the floor standing three-way Lumina III, and the centre channel two-way Lumina CI. One year later, "Simplicity" remains top of mind with the continuation of the project, announced in two new models: The Lumina II and The Lumina V. The collection expansion aims to reach an even wider audience by offering higher power, especially in relation to larger environments. The collection is able to embrace both a stereo system and a multi-channel home theatre system for multi-directional audio perspective.

Sonus faber Lumina III Reviews

"This then, is a speaker that gives some nods to expectations, but in both looks and performance brings something new to the table too. The company has managed to bring enough of its aesthetic and performance to the Lumina III that it is unquestionably a Sonus faber product, but this is combined with some new thinking in both the looks and the sound to hopefully win over some fresh converts." Hi-Fi Choice

"Sonus faber's Lumina III is perhaps an exciting glimpse into the company's future. It's hard to make a loudspeaker look good, sound good, be made in the West and not cost a King's Ransom, but the brand has cracked the code here. It's a more lively and forward sound than many expect from Sonus faber, but it doesn't 'throw the baby out with the bathwater' and retains much of that inviting and impassioned signature Sonus faber speaker sound. Best of all, it's capable of playing rough music without ever sounding rough round the edges itself, and that's a welcome addition to the audio canon." Hi-Fi+

"The Lumina IIIs are tall, thin towers wrapped in sumptuous leather with a beautifully finished hunk of multilayered wood for their front baffles. Drivers include a 1.15" (29mm) Damped Apex Dome tweeter, a 5.9" (150mm) natural-fiber-and-paper mid/ woofer, and two 5.9" paper-pulp cone woofers. Their sensitivity is rated at 89dB, and their nominal impedance is 4 ohms. The Lumina IIIs were revealing and accurate in a way that allowed the music to sound lifelike—no distorted uppers, no booming lowers, no veiled mids. Physically beautiful, compact, forgiving on the ear, easy to set up and place, they sound fantastic." The Absolute Sound Editors' Choice Awards 2023
